The Bully Project
One of our big projects is the Bully Project. We create a Prezi and and activities for the underclassmen to do so we can teach about how bullying is a problem in our society today. This project is to spread awareness to those who will come after us and hope that it will eventually stop the harmful act of bullying.
We help them distinguish between what is bullying and what is joking around. We help them deal with bullying or give them resources that may help them or others deal with the aftermath of bullying. We also teach them ways of how to prevent bullying if they see it happening.
We asked them to take a pledge so we can stop this madness once and for all.

Documentaries
In this class, we often watch documentaries that deal with every day lives. We watch documentaries of people who are just like us and of people who are nowhere near who we are or how we grew up. We watch as they teach us the importance of being ourselves and of helping others. These documentaries help us realize that we are each capable of making a difference in this world even if it is just a scratch on the surface.
These documentaries allow us to see that we are not alone in this world. It helps us realize that each and every one of us is more alike than we have ever believed. That we each hold such immense power without our hands. Yet we don't know how to use it.
But these documentaries help us realize we are NOT helpless.

Literature Books
Every few weeks, we all choose a new literature book to read with our group. It can be anything from science fiction to a slice of life. These books help us broaden our minds and our imagination. Each group will agree to read a book for however many weeks and each person is assigned a job. We get days to discuss what we've read, our thoughts on it, and if it was a problem, how we would go about fixing it.
But there are books that we read as a whole class. Books written by people that tell us things we don't normally read about. They range from talking about experiences of the author that has traveled far and wide to their own experiences within the confines of their own home. Their struggles and their advice to those of us who relate. And these books teach us that we do not always have to use conventional ways to do things.
"Giants are not what we think they are. The same qualities that appear to give them strength are often the sources of great weakness."
-Malcolm Gladwell, David and Goliath: Underdog, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants
